On providing EU support for education on politics in schools across the EU

The petitioner, a16-year old student from Austria, refers to his recent participation in the European Youth Parliament, and highlights the benefits of ensuring that secondary school students across the European Union attain a common basic level of knowledge on EU politics and institutions. The petitioner provides ideas on how this goal could be attained, in particular calling upon MEPs to visit schools in their constituencies and to explain their work at the Parliament. The petitioner believes that such measures could provide a significant contribution to raising political awareness amongst youth, to ensure that future generations fully understand the privilege of living in a democracy and thereby encourage greater youth voter participation and turnout in future elections.
