The petitioner explains that the SCI Tabarca, a natural area included in the Natura 2000 network, has suffered for many years from serious pollution caused by discharges of urban and industrial waste water from the sanitation network’s relief pipelines in the cities of Alicante and San Vicente del Raspeig through the land-sea pipeline from Alicante’s main ‘Rincón de León’ sewage works. The petitioner says that this SCI does not have a management plan and protection measures in place to turn it into an SAC once the legal time frame set by legislation and the Habitats Directive has expired.
