On compensation for air and train passengers in the event of delays

The petitioner states that flights are taking off with increased delays. Under Regulation (EC) 261/2004, compensation is due in the case of delays of more than two hours. In the case of Germany’s railways this is the case for delays of more than one hour. It is incomprehensible to the petitioner that the faster means of transport has a longer permissible delay before passenger rights can take effect. The petitioner emphasizes that travelling by train is more environmentally friendly and asks for the rules on compensation for air travel to be tightened considerably, at least in the case of domestic journeys, where air and rail transport are in direct competition.
