Petition addressed to: Latvijas Republikas Tieslietu Ministrija, Eiropas Savienības parlaments

I call for an amendment to the Civil Law of the Republic of Latvia and the European Union regulation, stipulating that plants are not property, but living beings that must be cared for, ensuring the availability of water, minerals and sunlight, and for secondary adjustments to be made in other legal acts to ensure consistent terminology.
The preparation of the amendments should be entrusted to the Ministry of Justice and European Parlament in cooperation with non-governmental animal protection organizations.

Reason

Many studies have shown that plants are able to adapt to their environment, communicate with other plants and animals using chemical signals and mycelial networks, recognize related plants, adjust their behavior according to competition and cooperation, sense light, temperature, touch, gravity, and respond to anesthetics in a manner similar to animals and humans.
However, current laws state that plants are property, not living beings.

Thank you so much for your support, Martins Roberts Saulevičs, Rīga
