Die Lebenserwartung von Kindern mit DMD hängt stark davon ab, wie lange sie mobil bleiben. Den betroffenen Kindern fehlt die Zeit, um auf ein reguläres Zulassungsverfahren zu warten.

Bislang keine bessere Alternative

Gegenwärtig ist keine Heilung für DMD verfügbar, und die nur Symptomverlangsamende Kortikosteroidbehandlung bringt geade bei Kindern schwere Nebenwirkungen wie Gewichtszunahme, Osteoporose, Verhaltensprobleme, Kleinwuchs und Reflux mit sich.

Jeder einzelne, der durch diese Therapie weiterhin gehen kann, ist eine Bereicherung für unsere Lebensgemeinschaft. Es gibt derzeit keine andere Möglichkeit. Den betroffenen bleibt keine Zeit zu lange auf die Zulassung zu warten.

Zeit ist Muskel!

Betroffene verlieren laufend und irreparabel Muskelfasern. Einmal verlorene Muskeln sind für immer verloren. Je eher eine Behandlung erfolgt, desto größer ist also der (konservierende) Effekt. Studien zu SRP9001 haben auch gezeigt, dass die Therapie besonders wirksam ist, je jünger die behandelten Jungen sind. Es geht wirklich um jeden Tag! Einige der Jüngeren (4-5 Jahre) konnten nach der Behandlung sogar Fähigkeiten neu erlernen wie springen, Treppen steigen oder sogar rennen.

Zulassungsverfahren haben einen Sinn. Nach wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen wird festgelegt, ob ein Medikament zugelassen wird. Ich kann den Zeitdruck der betroffenen Familien aus eigener Erfahrung nachvollziehen, aber das ist kein demokratischer Prozess, der über Mehrheiten beschleunigt wird. Man überlege sich bitte den Fall umgekehrt: Ein Medikament wird zugelassen, das nicht sicher ist und danach sterben Kinder beim Heilversuch. Besser wäre es, Patientenvertretungen wie die DGM zu stärken.
