- We urge the City Council members of Jyväskylä to keep the English program and classes so that we can get highly educated international specialists with their families to Jyväskylä. Companies and universities need them.
- We need English classes for all the Finnish families who have lived abroad with their families and returned to Finland and choose Jyväskylä because here their children can continue studying in English.
- In Tikkakoski (20 km from Jyväskylä) there is a big Air Force Unit and they need more English language after Finland became a Nato member
- Many Finnish families who have never lived outside of Finland but they understand the value for their children to study in English since it is the international language and is used in the EU
Причина
- Jyväskylä City is trying save 40 milj. euros and the City Council has mentioned that one of the services they might cut is English classes in the city from primary school to International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme
- Jyväskykylä will lose its appeal to ex-pats because of the lack of educational language options as the other larger Finnish cities have.
- Our concern is that companies that need International expertise will move away from Jyväskylä and it means a big amount of lost income for the city in the form of taxes.
