While a Serbian media outlet reported that the mid-tier English Premier League (EPL) club was interested in "national midfielder" Hwang In-beom (28, Krvena Zvezda), another media outlet mentioned the team's name.

Serbian sports media Meridian Sports dealt with the rumor of Hwang In-beom's transfer in an article titled "Premier League clubs are keeping an eye on Hwang In-beom" on the 27th (Korea time). Following Informer and Kurir, Serbian media are also pouring out articles on the transfer rumor every day.

According to Meridian Sports, the EPL clubs that expressed interest in Hwang In-beom are Wolverhampton, where Hwang In-beom's close friend Hwang Hee-chan plays, and Crystal Palace, which boasts a long tradition.

Meridian Sports reported: 'England club scouts watched on the spot as Hwang led his team to victory in the (forever) derby against Partizan and into the cup final.'

Hwang started as a central midfielder on the day and played full 90 minutes. In the 28th minute, he scored Aleksandar Filipovic's own goal by kicking a sharp left-footed cross from the right side of the opponent team toward the goal. Zvezda won 2-0 with Peter Ollanka's additional goal in the 30th minute.

On the 23rd, Informer reported that a scout from an EPL mid-ranking club planned to fly directly to Serbia to observe Hwang In-beom, attracting the attention of domestic soccer fans, but the team name was not disclosed in detail.

Informer wrote, "Hwang In-beom came into the spotlight after moving from Olympiacos to Zvezda for a club-high 5.5 million euros last summer. He is not a player who can be evaluated by assists or goals. His play is highly valued in modern soccer. He competes with opponents and passes between them. He sends perfect and precise passes to his teammates, creating great opportunities to score goals." Hwang has cemented his starting position since joining Zvezda this season and has five goals and five assists in 29 appearances in all tournaments.

According to Informer, Zvezda is willing to transfer Hwang if the conditions meet. The outlet stated, 'Hwang can play in a league stronger than Superliga. While Zvezda offers a good environment, if he has a strong financial offer and Hwang wants to move, management will consider it. Of course, (EPL clubs) will have to pay a fairly high transfer fee to sign Hwang.' As Zvezda has invested the highest transfer fee ever for Hwang, it seems unlikely that he will be released for an unsatisfactory fee.

Kurir said, "There has been no better player in the Serbian league than Hwang In-beom. Hwang showed impressive performances against Partizan, Derby, Manchester City, Leipzig, and the Young Boys. He excels in precise passes, successful duels, and walking distance. "It is a pleasure to see Hwang in his uniform because his play has a positive effect on his teammates, especially young players," he said, praising Hwang's performance as a key midfielder for Zvezda this season.

Informer said, "Hwang can play in a stronger league than Super League. Zvezda offers him a good environment, but a strong financial offer is on the way, and if Hwang wants to move, management will consider it." Of course, he said, "We will have to pay a pretty expensive transfer fee to recruit Hwang."

In his article, he explained in detail the process of transferring from Olympiacos to Zvezda last summer. At the time, Hwang was in conflict with Olympiacos' management. Naples, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Freiburg, Galatasaray, and Fenerbahce all wanted him. Olympiacos asked for 15 million euros (about 22 billion won), but no one agreed with the amount. On the last day of the transfer window, Zvezda jumped in and signed with Hwang for three times less

In an exclusive interview with Sports Chosun in July last year, Hwang said, "As you know, there are many cases where players involved are not aware of transfer rumors. I am very grateful that any team is interested in me. Where is my country?" and added, "I am grateful that there is a club that shows interest without regard to the importance of any league." Hwang is known to have changed his European agent last year.

Hwang made his professional debut in his hometown team Daejeon Hana and played in various leagues such as Vancouver Whitecaps (USA), Rubin Kazan (Russia), FC Seoul (Korea), and Olympiacos (Greece). The three teams that have been linked over the past week are Real Betis, Wolverhampton, and Palace. Wolverhampton is ranked 12th and Palace are 14th as of the 34th round of the EPL in the 2023-2024 season. Betis is seventh in La Liga.
