A foreigner-only casino in Paradise City, Incheon, near South Korea's main airport, reopened Wednesday (Sept. 9) at 2 p.m. It was just days after management said the game venue was closing "indefinitely" because of reports by local media that six resort employees, including two casino workers, had contracted COVID-19.
The new notice on the resort's website comes on the heels of the announcement on Friday of the indefinite closure of casinos. The latest post only mentions "employees" in relation to confirmed COVID-19 cases.
The notice added that the resort (pictured) "has conducted high-intensity precision quarantine in close consultation with local authorities."
It also said, "To prevent the spread of additional infections, all employees, including outsourced employees, were allowed to return to work only for employees who were tested for COVID-19 and had negative results."
The notice did not say how many resort workers (if any) tested positive for the disease.
According to the announcement, some non-gaming facilities, including Hotel Paradise, outdoor swimming pools, safari parks, kids zones, art spaces, La Scala, Garden Cafe, Lounge Paradise and Plaza's food and beverage stores, reopened from 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
It also said other non-game facilities such as the Art Paradiso Hotel, indoor swimming pool, sauna, fitness center and PlayStation Zone, as well as some food and beverage stores, including Imperial Treasure, a restaurant where at least one employee has fallen ill, will be closed.
Non-gaming entertainment facilities Cimer, Wonderbox and Chroma will also be closed.
The notice described the continued closure of the latter as "preemptive measures to prevent the spread of infection" and "safety of guests and staff."
As of 12 a.m. Thursday, South Korea recorded 156 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking the national tally to 21,588, according to a website dedicated to the South Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare. South Korea has recorded a total of 344 COVID-19 deaths since the pandemic began.
Paradise City opened in 2017 with a hotel as well as a foreigner-only casino. Since then, the complex has gradually added non-gaming facilities.
It is a venture between Korea's Paradise, which runs a foreigner-only casino, and Japan's entertainment giant Sega Sammy Holdings.
