Petition addressed to:
Ministerpräsident Stephan Weil
Dear ladies,gentlemen and diverse,
we're facing catastrophic draughts now and more so in the near future. Our underground and hill water depots display alarmingly low water levels already.
To ensure agricultural, forestry and civil water supply I strongly suggest to erect water desalination plants in the north and east sea along with a pipelined distribution network and sun-protected storage facilities along the way (minimizing losses when a pipeline breaks).
First things first. I am realistic. We need to have experts looking into the feasability of available solutions, look into the efficiency of existing solutions, calculate possible gains vs. the enormous costs and having a real close look into the diminishing local water supplies country-wide.
Reason
Droughts are one of the reasons for mass exodus. When we do not acknowledge that the climate changes will even get worse we might face a catastrophic outcome affecting our whole population in the near future.
As Benjamin Disraeli said. Be prepared for the worst, hope for the best.
It should be in every countries best interest to not become dependent on third party water delivery. When we start this after the rhine has run dry it is way too late.
Being the first to respond to this situation in time might put us in an advantageous position as a water delivering country for europe.
