"Grand Korea Leisure (GKL), which operates a foreigner-only casino under the Seven Luck brand, suspended its game at the COEX venue (pictured) in southern Seoul from 10 a.m. on Wednesday and suspended operations until Friday (7 January) afternoon after eight employees were diagnosed with COVID-19," a company official said in response to GGRA's call on Thursday.

Earlier, an online company announcement described it as a "preemptive measure" to prevent the "spread of infections" related to COVID-19 and to "safety of customers and employees." GKL said no such infections were detected among customers at the venue.

The closure of the venue was for cleaning and COVID-19 testing of the rest of the casino's employees.

Game operations at two other casinos run by GKL - Seven Luck at the Millennium Hilton in Gangbuk, Seoul, and Busan Lotte in the South Korean port city of Busan - were unaffected and opened to the public.

South Korean authorities have reinstated social distancing rules across the country to prevent a resurgence of COVID-19. The measures will be in effect until at least Jan. 16.

South Korea recorded 4,126 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours as of 12 a.m. on Thursday, taking the country's confirmed cases to 653,792, including 5,887 deaths, according to the ministry.
