"Tottenham manager Engie Postecoglou is looking for a new key player for rebuilding," the Evening Standard reported on the 7th (Korea Standard Time). "The player Postecoglou has chosen is defender Christian Romero at the center of the new change." 

Postecoglou, who took the helm of Tottenham last summer, is ranking fifth in the first season. The outcome is not as certain as expected. 

After replacing Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham left Jose Mourinho, Nunu Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte to the helm.

However, after failing to achieve the desired result, Tottenham recruited a manager with an aggressive concept, Postecoglou. 

Postecoglou who joined Tottenham recruited James Maddison, Brennan Johnson, Mickey van der Van, and Guglielmo Vicario. With his new players, he created a sensation in the early days of the season. Postecoglou's attacking soccer was fierce in the Premier League. 

Of course, the offense had no choice but to engage in an uphill battle. Harry Kane had a hard time filling the void created by his transfer to Bayern Munich. In the end, Son Heung-min played as a one-top striker.

Tottenham also led the league with 10 undefeated matches in the first half of this season. Despite key players such as James Madison and Mickey van der Van being out due to injury, they are competing in the top four of the UEFA Champions League under Postecoglou. 

However, Tottenham has lost four games in a row, showing lack of hindsight. It has failed to defeat Aston Villa in fourth place due to consecutive losses to Newcastle United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. 

However, its latest four-game losing streak is fatal. Tottenham lost four straight games for the first time in 20 years.

With attention focused on whether he will be able to qualify for the UCL by achieving fourth place, Coach Postecoglou is also adjusting his goals for next season. 

Already, Postecoglou could not hide his regret for the squad at a press conference ahead of the match against Chelsea. 

Postecoglou said, "We need to change this team. We need to create a squad that we think we can play soccer. We need change. Change has to happen. Our players have made solid progress, but we still have a long way to go."

In particular, Postecoglou said, "Our goal is to transform Tottenham and make it a team like Liverpool and Arsenal that can participate in the championship competition. To achieve that goal, the most important thing is to change the team itself." 

Postecoglou foretold a major reform through this summer's transfer market. Current captain Son Heung-min has a solid position, but he could put down his armband.

Ahead of the last match against Chelsea, Postecoglou expressed regret, saying that most of the players do not understand his football philosophy. He declared that he will reshuffle the squad with players who have faith and confidence.
