Official data released by the Macau government on Monday showed hotel room numbers in Macau are set to rise 11.7 percent over the next few years, with about 17 projects under construction or in the approval phase.
The figures show that as of Q2 2023, nine hotel projects are under construction and a further eight are receiving government approval. They will provide nearly 5,040 new hotel rooms together in the Macau market. The data did not provide an expected completion date for the new hotel project.
According to official data, Macau had a total of 43,000 rooms through 131 hotels and inns as of the end of June.
Most of the new supply already being built will be in Kotai, where two new hotels are being developed, offering a total of 2,808 rooms. Another 924 rooms are being developed on the Macau Peninsula.
The eight hotels awaiting government approval (six in Macau and one in Taipei and one in Colorado) will offer a total of 1,308 rooms.
The number of hotels in Kotai has been rising since travel restrictions were eased earlier this year.
In early April, Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd. gave a gentle opening to a new hotel tower and an indoor water park called Studio City's Epic Tower. The W Macau Hotel Tower, which is part of Studio City's second phase, will open in September, offering 557 rooms.
The Raffles Hotel at the Galaxy Macao Hotel Tower will open to the public on Aug. 16. The hotel is part of the third phase of the Galaxy Macao complex, which is promoted by casino operator Galaxy Entertainment Group. Accommodation in the new tower is already being offered to certain invited guests of the Galaxy Entertainment.
