Petition addressed to: European Commission

Since Obama administration this assumption has been existing that engaging the Islamic Republic on the nuclear deal (JCPoA) would encourage more political tolerance and less human rights violation; but the other side, leaders in Iran were worried that the deal would lead to liberalization that could empower people against the regime. Therefore, in reality what happened was further repressions of civil society and freedom of expression; in fact, the regime has never had any interest in loosening the grip on society.
As a survivor minority who lived 20+ years among oppressed and abandoned people of Iran, I am deeply concern about Obama-style engagement with the regime and denial of human right violations. European leaders must adopt " No new deal with Iran until full respect of human rights" strategy and solidly promote accountability for such abuses and consider all appropriate tools to impose costs on regime and those responsible for human rights violation in Iran.
Moreover, in order to have a comprehensive and legit perspective of Iran's situation and paving the way for Iranians to build a democracy in their country, both US and EU politicians need to listen to neglected voice of Iranian people instead of regimes' unregistered lobbyists who present Iran's state-propagated narrative. Dealing with Islamic Republic is a loose-loose game for west and people of Iran. Those in Europe who are emphasizing on "dialogue with Islamic Republic" should ponder this question that " as a foreign power how could we have a dialogue with a regime that has constantly suppressed its own people who tried to have a peaceful dialogued with them?"

Reason

The Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the world's worst human right abusers. Under president Rouhani's so-called moderate presidency, the Islamic regime's involvement in gross violations of human rights has increased; it has the highest executions per capita, harshly persecutes human rights defenders and civil society activists, detaining in unjust and dreadful conditions, torture and degrading treatment or punishment of political prisoners and people who got arrested during protests back in 2019 and 2020.
Islamic Regime continues to perpetrate against its citizens, specially the ethnic minorities such as Kurds, Baluchis, and Arabs, in addition to non-Shi’a and non-Muslim who are the religious minorities. According to reports gathered by Iran Human Rights (IHR) between 2010 and 2018, among the 118 people who have been executed for affiliation with banned political and militant groups, there were 65 Kurds (55%), 29 Baluchis (25%) and 15 Arabs (13%), most of whom were Sunni Muslims in addition to being ethnic minorities. Since this January, regime has detained and summoned over 100 Kurds including activists, environmentalists, writers, university students, and ordinary individuals with no track record of activism.
