Als een plant liggen wachten op je dood is mensonwaardig Elk dier wordt uit zijn lijden verlost, maar als mens moet je nú langzaam liggen wegkwijnen. Dat is onmenselijk Ik wil dit niet meemaken. Maar ….. ik wil ook nog niet sterven

Ik heb mijn man, met de ziekte van Alzheimer, zien aftakelen. Hij had ons altijd gevraagd om hem euthanasie te voorzien als hij niet meer wist wie hij was. Jammer genoeg kon dit niet.

is het niet zo dat we voor alle mensen die wilsonbekwaam zijn zouden kunnen trachten naar een aanpassing in de wet met de nodige aandacht en garanties op zorgvuldig handelen?

mensen met dementie dienen blijvend als menswaardig te worden gezien. het beeld dat maatschappelijk wordt voorgesteld is als een beeld van een vegetatie leven. dat is incorrect! mensen met dementie kunnen nog lang een sterke levensdrang hebben. Hun actuele wil van dat moment wordt dan helemaal niet gerespecteerd mocht een persoon vooraf een wilsbeschikking van euthanasie geformuleerd hebben. Dan wordt het sederen en euthanaseren .... is dat ethisch correct?

Brengen mensen met dementie ons allen niet juist een heel belangrijke boodschap. Ze kunnen door hun "zgn" mensonwaardig gedrag bij familieleden en omstaanders zoveel waardevolle kwaliteiten opwekken die dreigen verloren te gaan in onze "nuts"maatschappij oa onbaatzuchtig liefhebben, geduld, ons losweken van puur materialistisch denken en ... "weten" wij wel wat nà de dood gebeurt met onze ziel door euthanasie ?
