Petition is addressed to: Bürgermeister Johannes Anzengruber/Stadt Innsbruck

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for urban development could be seized by Innsbruck with the planned underpass and Sill Bridge at the main train station. This would directly connect the eastern and western parts of the city and finally provide a safe and fast solution for cycling and pedestrian traffic at Tirol’s central mobility hub. However, the project is at risk of failure—and with it, the opportunity to bring Innsbruck closer together.

While the State of Tirol and the ÖBB are ready to fund one-third of the planning costs, the clear commitment from Mayor Anzengruber and the City of Innsbruck is still missing. The consequence? The ÖBB have already begun their renovation plans—and the pedestrian and cycling underpass is no longer part of the project. This opportunity exists only now, as planning and construction work for the Brenner Base Tunnel is already underway. A later implementation would be significantly more expensive, complicated, and practically impossible to realize.

WE DEMAND VISIONARY ACTION:

  • We demand a clear commitment from the city leadership to proceed with the current plans and implement this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity—and thus also commit to the responsible use of taxpayer money, as a later implementation would be far more costly and difficult to finance.
  • A safe and direct connection under the main train station between Pradl (Anzengruberstraße) and the city center/Wilten (Heiliggeiststraße) for active mobility.
  • The planned bike parking spaces directly under the train platforms.

POP-UP BIKE LANE NOW:
In addition, we demand that a pop-up solution towards Sillpark and Boznerplatz be created before the final completion of the redevelopment (2032) to ensure safe cycling to the station immediately and prevent further accidents involving cyclists at the main train station.

Sign now! ✍️ The City of Innsbruck and Mayor Anzengruber must not let this opportunity slip away! Innsbruck needs this connection—for a livable and well-connected city!

Reason

  • Better accessibility: Residents from Innsbruck's largest district, Pradl, and the eastern districts like Amras would finally have a fast, safe, and direct route to Wilten, the city center, and the western parts of Innsbruck – and vice versa.
  • Perfect connection to the train: With bike parking spaces and direct access to the platforms, the solution would be a true mobility hub and key to the mobility shift in Tirol.
  • Now or never: The construction work at the train station offers a unique opportunity to realize this connection efficiently and cost-effectively. A later construction would be complex, expensive, and highly unlikely.
Thank you for your support, Radlobby Tirol , Innsbruck
