Petition addressed to: Scientific publishers
The measures taken in many European countries to contain COVID-19 infections are accompanied by major restrictions and challenges for university teaching and research. In Italy and Austria, lecturers are required to switch to e-learning - temporarily until the easter break. Most university libraries are closed.
With this petition, we therefore ask the academic publishers to make publications necessary for teaching purposes available in digital format on request by lecturers free of charge until classroom teaching can begin again.
In recent years, many university libraries have greatly expanded their stock of e-books and many colleagues are using Open Access for their publications - but the supply is still too small to adequately meet the needs of teaching.
