Mainland authorities are considering rolling out a new type of visa for Chinese tour groups to allow them to enter Macau repeatedly on a single holiday trip between Macau and the neighboring mainland Chinese island of Hung-chien (pictured). 경마사이트프로

Huang Zhongjian, deputy director of the Hengchin Economic Development Bureau, made the disclosure at a press briefing on Wednesday.

Huang said representatives of China's central government went to Hengchen in March as part of a feasibility study. Hengchen authorities are now working on a plan to provide a framework for that kind of visa, the official added.

The proposal would still have to be approved by relevant national ministries, he said, adding that the plan would have to take into account the needs of Macau's tourism industry.

The idea of multiple entry visas between the two places was mentioned by the Macau government earlier this year as a possible way to extend mainland tourists' stay per trip in Macau by allowing them to sleep overnight in a cheap Hung-chien hotel room.

Currently, mainland travelers visiting Macau are only allowed one entry and exit visa even if they travel as part of the tour group.

As a way to boost Macau's attractiveness as a destination, executives of Macau casino operators and representatives of the Macau travel industry have previously mentioned allowing multiple access to both destinations on a single holiday or business trip.

Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, president and chief executive of the Macau casino complex operator Melco Resorts & Entertainment Ltd, said last year that Macau should explore ways for the city and Hung Chin to jointly host more events.

Francis Louis Utung, vice president of Macao casino operator Galaxy Entertainment Group, mentioned the concept of facilitating "borderless" travel between Macao and Hung-chien as early as 2017.
