Tekst van de petitie
The experience center at NHL Stenden has put up AI cameras in the middle of a walkway where it is impossible to avoid them. As of now there is no effort put into safeguarding student's consent and autonomy in appearing on these screens.
The cameras and the machines they feed into are constantly wasting electricity and generating useless images or scanning faces with the same technology that is used to program combat drones to murder in Gaza and other war zones.
They say they don't record anything and that you consent by merely walking in front of the cameras. But the presence of the cameras has been used as an excuse to put up a "hidden camera" that is constantly being monitored. You are being watched.
The precedent set by having this "innovation" on display in our school halls is concerning and we as students think there should at least be an option to not appear on these screens by moving them to a less public area where cameras will not face a walkway if not stopping the promotion of generative AI in our school.
We think it is important to protect the privacy of students and give them more of a choice in if they want to be part of this "AI experience".
as of now we don't think there is enough consideration for this view.
We have issued an official complaint but at the moment we feel it's not going anywhere so we are using this petition as a way to show that we are not the only ones that don't think this is okay.
