A genocidal campaign is unfolding before our eyes in Gaza, led by the State of Israel. The figures speak clear for themselves: 90 deaths per day, a third of them children, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The genocidal offensive against the Palestinian population is currently accelerating: more than 2.4 million Gazans are in the grip of famine, with the Israeli army blocking access to humanitarian aid getting into the region.
Reason
As Pasteurians, we cannot remain indifferent to this situation. We strongly denounce and condemn the actions of the IDF that we consider a genocide against the Palestinian people, which directly opposes the values of humanity and internationalism advocated by the Institut Pasteur.
Today, as the genocide enters a decisive phase, the Institut Pasteur's Direction has not communicated on this subject since October 2023 and is actively pursuing its scientific collaborations with Israeli institutions. On February 20, 2025, the management invited researchers to participate in the call for synergy projects between the Institut Pasteur and the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, with funding of up to €1.2 million per project.
We believe that this situation of silence and continuity places the Institute, and us as Pasteurians, in a position of complicity with the ongoing genocide. We cannot accept this situation and we demand the end of all collaborations between the Institut Pasteur and Israeli scientific institutions, as well as the cessation of diplomatic relations, including the Pasteur-Weizmann partnership.
In 2022 and 2024, the Directorate General has implemented moratoriums on collaborations with institutions in Russia and Iran. Several universities and research institutions have already decided to sever scientific ties with Israeli academic institutions, including Sciences Po Strasbourg, 76 universities in Spain as well as universities in the Netherlands and Finland.
Today, the General Director of the Institut Pasteur must decide to end collaborations with Israeli institutions.
Because we do not accept the genocide in Gaza, because we do not want to be complicit, we, the staff of the Institut Pasteur, ask Ms. Yasmine Belkaid, Director of the Institut Pasteur, to order the cessation of all collaborations between the Institut Pasteur and Israeli scientific institutions. We need clear decisions that are commensurate with the dramatic situation that the Palestinians are currently experiencing.

Why people sign
The situation we are currently living in is taking us back to 1939, and as powerless as I can be in changing the past, I really want to be standing up for what is right, the IDF has been condemned by the international court of justice of war crimes. Pasteur taking a stand against the collaborations with Israel, is not against the Isreali researcher, a high possibility might be that these researcher don't even know what is happening because they might have their news censored, or they are even pro-palestenian. Either way it will make the Isreali institutes overall put pressure on their government to stop the genocide.
Trying to avoid political discussions in scientific institutions is not a correct approach, as is evident by the US's current complications. As scientists, we have to be morally and ethically correct, which is a practice for us in our labs, from the ethical conduction and design of our experiments to the handling of dangerous viruses and animal welfare. Being morally correct is in the core values of being a scientist and a point of evaluation whenever a researcher is hired; being against the genocide of our fellow humans in a different country is just what makes sense for a morally correct scientist. Trying not to get involved means your moral compass is broken or fake. How would you trust the science and collaboration with institutes that don't have a correct ethical compass? How would you trust their data? And would you be comfortable knowing that the experiments are funded from the illegal ongoing apartheid and genocide?
