UPDATE ******
Thank you so much to everyone who signed and got involved. The works have been postponed pending an environmental impact assessment

There are Sandmartins nesting in the banks on the North Beach, right at the ramp down to the beach. Sisk (developers of Marina Village) have engaged a contractor to begin substantial works to repair the ramp accessing the North Beach, starting this Monday.

While I appreciate that these repairs need to be carried out, the works will take place immediately beside the Sand Martin nesting banks.

By all accounts, Sand Martins are a sensitive species and there is a risk that excessive disturbance could cause them to abandon their nests during the breeding season.

We are asking that these works be postponed until Autumn, when the Sand Martins have started their journey to Subsaharan Africa.

Reason

We need to give nature a voice. Sand Martins are currently amber listed on Birds of Conservation Concern in Ireland. This is largely due to declining habitats. We need to protect these incredible annual visitors to our shores.

Thank you so much for your support, North Beach Sand Martins, Delgany

Why people sign

To preserve nature and natural habitats for all animals

I grew up in Greystones, and spent a huge amount of time around the North beach area, one of the first places my love of birds began, and the sand martins being one of the species I watched returning each spring back to this area. We need to put more taught into the protection of our birds and other wildlife. By carrying out an environmental impact assessment, this will give the birds are far better opportunity of being protected in the long run, hopefully 🤞 I am lucky enough to work as a full time ornithologist, and regularly work on projects such as this.

We need more wildlife protection.

It's a no -brainer!!!!

We need to protect our wildlife, the marina development was completely thoughtless
