If you want the Holden Beach Board of Commissioners to evaluate ALL viable options to SAVE THE PIER and are against the demolition of this historic landmark, please sign this petition. We will share our results at the Feb. 29th special meeting.
Reason
The Holden Beach Fishing Pier is a historic landmark and should be preserved, restored, and reopened. The recreational and economic impact this facility has on our local area has been proven by research studies and public input. Since the current town board of commissioners have suggested that demolishing this structure is an option, we need to work together to come up with a plan to SAVE IT!

Debate
The Holden Beach Fishing Pier carries with it the rich heritage of the Community. Don't destroy the Pier. Either repair the existing wooden pier or build a new one that represents the area and the history of Holden Beach. I don't care if it is wood, concrete or a combination. But don't let them tear anything down without replacing it. Our roots are in fishing and we need to lose our foundation as a community..
No CONTRA argument yet.

I absolutely love walking out on the pier and sometimes bringing my beach chair and just relaxing there. I am disabled and cannot handle the walk across the sand to enjoy sitting by the water but I can manage to walk on the pier and enjoy the ocean that way. I was so disappointed when I saw that it was no longer available.

35 plus years visiting Holden Beach & always the pier has been a part of those memories! Really miss seeing it lit up at night! Every beach needs a pier!

HB has been my second home for 40 years. At the age of 9 my Dad purchased property and we spent much of my childhood on weekends in town on that pier. Mom and Dad spent countless hours fishing on that pier (even into the midnight hours). As I grew older I would bring friends from my home town of Laurinburg and we enjoyed the pavilion, grill and being beachside. Parking was convenient and I actually met my first love while waking on the pier. I usually keep quiet when it comes to petitions etc but I do feel the HB community would continue to grow and create lifelong memories with a functioning pier and pavilion. I wish I had photos from those years! I do still have vivid memories though. Such good times.

The pier is part of HB history. We have vacationed there for years and would hate to see it gone!
