Customers must communicate their firm acceptance of contract from Virginmedia

Reason

On June 22, I was moving house. I called Virginmedia (who supplies my internet service) to notify them of this move and asked the services to be transferred. After waiting for a month for the promised technician, I called, but they refused to send this technician indicating that the service seemed fine on their end. Somewhere in the middle of expressing my disappointment, I also expressed relief that my contract would soon be ending.

This is when I discovered that not only did they transfer the service, but imposed a new contract without my knowledge and agreement. An email to the effect was sent, but Virgin knew I had no internet service and it was highly unlikely I would have noticed this email. Moreover, I did not request a renewal! I have called several times for a supervisor, promised a return call, but never received one. In the last instance, when my husband tried to communicate with the agent, he was rude, disparaging and unbothered. My husband expressed his disappointment and the agent's response was "well we are the biggest company".Additionally, most people are intimidated by the recourse of breaking a contract they never even signed or agreed to in any other way. This cannot continue!

A contract has two basic elements - an offer and an acceptance. It bothers me therefore that large companies like Virginmedia can force people into a contract without informing them and without acceptance of such. This also explains why these companies can brag about being the largest as there appear to be entrenched strategies of exploitation on the average person without any accountability and no sensible recourse for this ill-treatment.

Like any other agreement, we must require Virginmedia to send a copy of new contracts to its customers and receive the customers' confirmation of the terms and agreement before a Contract is said to be formed
