The ability to buy and sell raw dairy products

Petition richtet sich an: Federal Government

We, the undersigned, call on the Government of Malta to allow the legal sale of raw (unpasteurized) milk to informed consumers under appropriate food safety regulations.
At present, Maltese residents are not permitted to purchase raw milk, even if they knowingly choose to do so. This removes an individual's freedom to make a personal dietary choice and limits access to a traditional, natural food that is legally available in many other countries under regulated conditions.
This petition is not asking for anyone to be required to consume raw milk, nor is it seeking to remove food safety standards. Instead, it calls for a regulated framework that allows licensed farmers to sell raw milk directly to consumers who wish to purchase it. Such a system could include clear labeling, hygiene standards, regular testing, and consumer information about the potential risks associated with consuming unpasteurized milk.

Allowing regulated sales would:

• Give consumers the freedom to choose what they eat and drink.
• Support local dairy farmers by providing an additional legal market for their products.
• Bring Malta in line with other countries that permit the controlled sale of raw milk.
• Ensure that those who wish to purchase raw milk can do so through a transparent and regulated system rather than having no legal option.

We respectfully ask the Government of Malta to review the current legislation and introduce a legal pathway for the regulated sale of raw milk to adults who choose to purchase it.

Consumers should have the right to make informed decisions about their food while maintaining appropriate public health safeguards
