Petition richtet sich an: Cyprus government

We call upon the government of Cyprus to introduce and enforce a ban on excessively loud motorcycles, mopeds and cars, which are causing a significant disturbance to the peace and well-being of residents and visitors alike.
The noise pollution created by these vehicles disrupts daily life, affects the health and mental well-being of individuals, and diminishes the overall quality of life in both urban and rural areas. Particularly during the night and early morning hours, the excessive noise from these vehicles is unbearable, contributing to stress, sleep disturbances, and a general sense of discomfort.
We understand that these vehicles are essential modes of transportation for many people, but we believe that regulations should be in place to limit the noise levels produced by these vehicles. Noise-reducing measures, such as mandatory use of quieter exhaust systems and regular checks on noise emissions, should be enforced to protect public health and ensure a peaceful environment for all.
We urge the relevant authorities to take immediate action by implementing stricter noise control regulations and penalties for non-compliance. By doing so, Cyprus can maintain its reputation as a safe, peaceful, and welcoming destination for both residents and tourists.
Let us work together to preserve the tranquility of our communities and promote a healthier and quieter living environment for everyone.

Begründung

As a concerned resident, I am deeply affected by the increasing noise pollution caused by excessively loud motorcycles, mopeds and cars in Cyprus. The constant disruption to the peace and quiet of our neighborhoods has reached unbearable levels, particularly during night hours. This is not just a personal inconvenience but a broader public health concern. Research has shown that exposure to persistent noise, such as that from loud vehicles, can lead to various health issues, including sleep disturbances, heightened stress levels, and cardiovascular problems.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), long-term exposure to high levels of noise can contribute to serious health risks, including heart disease and high blood pressure. In urban areas, noise pollution is already a well-documented issue, but the unchecked use of noisy motorcycles and mopeds exacerbates the problem . The European Environment Agency (EEA) also states that noise pollution is a significant environmental health risk, directly impacting the well-being and quality of life of residents .
I believe many fellow citizens share this concern, as our quality of life is significantly diminished by these excessive noise levels. Cyprus is known for its peaceful environment, yet this reputation is being tarnished by vehicles that flout acceptable noise limits.
Other European cities have successfully implemented stricter noise control measures for motorcycles and mopeds, reducing noise pollution and improving living conditions. France, for instance, has introduced mandatory noise tests for motorcycles . If similar steps were taken in Cyprus—such as enforcing quieter exhaust systems, regular noise emission checks, and imposing penalties for violations—we could reduce the negative impact of noise pollution.
This issue affects all of us: residents, families with children, the elderly, and even tourists who come to Cyprus seeking tranquility. Let us raise our voices to demand that our government act swiftly to implement noise control regulations that will restore the peace of our communities and protect our health.
