Petition is addressed to: UK Government
Under an agreement from 2010, the number of UK nuclear warheads was to fall to 180. Now, the PM, as part of his "Integrated Review" wishes to reverse that decision and, instead, increase the UK's arsenal, half of which is, contentiously, held in Scotland to 260. I suggest that the move be opposed.
Reason
I believe that the greatest problems facing Great Britain today (in no particular order) are; global warming, lack of affordable housing, government debt at100% of GDP, likely future pandemics attributable to the industrialised production of meat, violence to women, terrorism, state-sponsored cyber attacks, there being as much plastic in the sea as fish, Scottish secession and the 100,000 NHS staff shortfall.
Mr Johnson's desired increase in nuclear armaments will be at the continued cost of our conventional forces as well as any hope of ever seeing properly funded social care, will provide further ammunition to those wishing to see Scotland leave The Union while doing absolutely nothing to mitigate the consequences of our other, far from insubstantial, current predicaments.
Furthermore, it will provide justification to all other countries seeking to increase their own nuclear weapons stockpiles, immediately instigating another world-wide arms race, having spent decades negotiating the deceleration of the last. This is a course of action we can ill afford on many, many levels so I hope you will support my petition against such an unjustifiable policy.
