Peticija je upućena:
Consiglio regionale della Toscana
We ask the competent authorities to stop the 'Wind Farm Project of Scansano.' We cannot allow the beauty and natural heritage of such a precious area for our economy and lifestyle to be compromised.
NO to the Wind Farm of Scansano
Sign this petition to stop the construction of the wind farm in Scansano and preserve the beauty and integrity of our beloved land.
Statements of opposition to the Scansano wind farm project have been expressed by various parties and different levels of institutional and local authorities in Scansano, Magliano in Toscana, and Grosseto, including trade unions, provinces, and regional councilors representing different points of view.
Despite these efforts, the private company behind the project remains determined to proceed with a plan that involves a substantial and irreversible environmental impact. This plan has been formulated without any attempt or demonstrated interest in initiating a dialogue or engaging in communication with the local community and its representatives.
In recent years, the fight against requests for wind farm installations has become a common practice across Italy, with resolute protests from the regions affected by similar forms of energy speculation. These activities not only endanger natural habitats but also pose risks to economies dependent on these valleys. People who have invested financially and selflessly in natural, historical, and cultural values are now deeply distressed. There is a real fear that these collective values may be irreversibly compromised for the sake of purely speculative interests on behalf of private entities.
This petition serves as a public appeal to all residents and visitors of Maremma who can and must express their opinion primarily through the Ministry's website and, if possible, through the support of the local group "NO to the wind farm of Scansano." It particularly encourages the many foreign visitors, who might otherwise not have the opportunity to express their opinion on this matter.
Obrazloženje
We am writing this petition as residents of Maremma and lovers of the beautiful area between Scansano and Magliano in Tuscany. As many of you know, this area is characterized by organic farms, vineyards, olive groves, and natural forest habitats.
These farms adopt sustainable management methods, producing certified DOCG, DOC, IGP, and IGT food and wine excellences. Many of us also offer tourist stays for those who wish to immerse themselves in nature. Our region is close to the Maremma National Park and offers magnificent walks, bike paths, tours, and a place to appreciate nature, wine, food, and the people of Maremma.
Yet, all of this is at risk. A project is planned for the construction of a wind farm, with turbines 200 meters tall, in a valley on the border between Scansano and Magliano, an area that registers little wind for many months of the year. This area was chosen without proper wind analysis. The installation of these wind turbines will not only industrialize our beloved agricultural lands but will also jeopardize our local businesses and tourism.
Reasons for Objection:
- Natural Considerations: The direct and indirect impact of wind farms on ecosystems and biodiversity would be extremely significant. It affects areas of high natural importance, central to projects aimed at improving the tourist-naturalistic values, which are entirely incompatible with the presence of such large artificial structures. Regarding wildlife, there would be habitat fragmentation and subsequent isolation of populations, with a notable impact on many animal species of community interest, particularly birds and bats. Both during construction and operation, there would be disturbances to the general biocenoses and destruction of habitat.
- Hydrogeological Instability: The areas for the installation of wind turbines are located in a valley, subject to infrequent but intense rains. When proposing the placement of wind turbines near areas subject to instability and/or any hydrogeological risk, this choice needs to be carefully evaluated and adequately justified.
- Personal Health: Low and high-frequency noise, flickering light.
- Personal Health: Stress-related issues.
- Destruction of the Landscape: New wide access roads will be required, cutting through the landscape. These will forever alter the landscape, cutting through the gentle hills that are well-known and heavily visited by tourists.
- Destruction of the Landscape: The view of everyone will always be directed toward the wind turbines, and the view will no longer be natural but industrialized.
- Destruction of Natural Habitat: Damage to animals, birds, and birds of prey.
- Business Loss: Damage to DOCG, DOC, IGT, IGP areas.
- Business Loss: Damage to tourism and related activities.
For More Sustainable Energy
We know that we must invest in green and sustainable energy. Our area has historically been at the forefront with sustainable practices, organic farming, and activities promoting quality products in respect of the environment, with the "Made in Tuscany" and "Made in Italy" labels.
Alternatives to Wind Farms in Areas Like Maremma
There are alternative solutions for energy production, such as the installation of solar panels on agricultural warehouses, industrial roofs, office buildings, parking lots, and private homes. This method is already available, is less invasive to the environment, and is easily implementable.
Wind Farm Installation Requests Are Out of Control
The excessive ease with which requests for wind farm installations on agricultural land are currently being approved, in order to meet the EU's green energy requirements for 2030, is further damaging our agricultural heritage.
